For class reps
Have you become class rep? Here is the practical part.
The job is three things: messages that reach all the parents, replies before the deadline, and photos shared with consent. Here is a way to rig it that takes a quarter of an hour.
You keep the chat
The class is sure to have a group chat, and nobody is going to take it away from you, because quick talk belongs there. But the message about the photographer on Thursday drowns in it, and the photos from the class trip are lost up the stream. kauke is a private page for what should stay: the messages, the events and the photos. Only the invited see the content, and it is never indexed by search engines.
How to set up the group
- Set the group up at kauke.no/ny, and choose a name that holds for next school year too, the year they finish for instance:
kauke.no/nordbyen-2031. You confirm who you are with Vipps once. Everyone who creates a group or an event on kauke does that, so an invitation from here is worth opening. - Paste in the list of parents, e-mail addresses or mobile numbers, look over what kauke found, and send the invitations with one button. Each parent logs in with the e-mail they were invited with, without a password and without making an account first.
- Write the first post: who you are, what the page is for, and that the chat carries on as before.
- Put in the first event with a reply deadline, the parents' evening for instance. Guardians reply for their children, you see who has not replied, and you can send a reminder to exactly those.
Did the message get through?
In the chat you never know whether the message reached everyone. Here you see it: on a post it says ‘Seen by 14 of 21’, and that number is seen only by you and the others who organise. Then you know whether it is enough to wait, or whether you have to chase. The parents never see each other's reading.
The photos from the class
Photos of the children can be shared here, because only the invited see them, and they are not used for anything else. The consents still have to be in place first. What is required, and what to look for in the choice of channel, is on the page about photos of children.
What it costs
For a class it is free. The free plan is a permanent plan with 500 MB of storage, not a trial period, and a parents' group with messages and photos stays inside it for a long time. If you need more room later, it is on the pricing page.
Next school year
The class stays, but the list changes. New parents are invited in, and the ones who leave are taken off the list and see nothing more. The history stays for the ones who are left, and we never delete anything for you.
