Common questions
What people ask first.
If you cannot find the answer, send an e-mail to kontakt@kauke.no, and we will answer.
What does kauke cost?
The free plan is a permanent plan, not a trial period. It gives 500 MB of storage and video up to 3 minutes, and everything else is included: as many members, posts and events as you like. If you need more room, the paid plan costs 1500 kr a year per group, VAT included.
Who can see what we put up?
Only the people on the group's access list. The pages are never indexed by search engines, and there is no secret link that lets anyone else in: when you log in, we check that you are on the list.
Do we need an app?
No. kauke is a website and works in the browser on a phone and on a computer. You can turn on notifications, so your phone says when something new arrives, and you can put kauke on the home screen if you want it as an icon. There is nothing to install.
Can we use kauke instead of a Facebook group?
That is what most people do. The difference is that the content is private, that nobody needs a Facebook account to take part, and that the posts stay in order instead of disappearing down a stream. There is no advertising and no algorithm deciding who sees what.
The whole comparison, with what kauke does not do
Can we share photos of the children in the group?
Yes, that is one of the reasons kauke exists. The photos are shown only to the people on the access list, they are not used for anything else, and someone in charge can delete them. You still have to have consent from the guardians, and the child should be heard. What has to be in place is gathered on a page of its own.
How do we invite the members?
The leaders put in e-mail addresses or phone numbers, either one by one, by pasting a list, or from the contact cards on their phone. The person who is invited logs in with the e-mail they were invited with, or with Vipps if it was the phone number, and gets access straight away. There is no password to remember or hand out.
Can guardians reply for their children?
Yes. On an event a guardian can reply yes, no or maybe for their child, without the child needing an account of their own.
What happens if we stop paying?
The group goes back to the free plan, and the content stays. If you have stored more than the free plan holds, you cannot upload anything new until you have deleted something, but everything already there is still visible. We never delete anything for you.
Where is our content stored?
With a hosting provider in Europe. We do not sell data, we use no cookies for tracking, and we do not share content with other services for marketing.
Can we get our content out again?
Each person can download their own data from My account, with posts, comments and replies. Someone in charge can download the whole group from the settings: every post, photo, video and attachment in one zip file, with pages that can be read offline.
What happens if the only admin disappears?
Then the group can sort it out itself. When no admin has signed in for 30 days, members can ask to become admin at the foot of the group's page. One more member has to back the request. The admins are told and can approve or decline with one click, and if another 30 days pass without any admin signing in, the request is approved by itself. Whoever takes over must be confirmed the same way the current admins are, so a group founded with Vipps gets a new admin with Vipps. There is no owner role: a group belongs to the group, not to the person who set it up.
Does everyone need Vipps?
No. Only the person who sets up a group or makes an event confirms who they are with Vipps, once, because they become responsible for the details of the people who are invited. A poll about a date needs only an e-mail login. Everyone else logs in with e-mail, or with Vipps if they were invited with a phone number.
Does inviting by SMS cost anything?
Only when you choose it yourself. In a standalone event you can send the invitation as a text message to the people who have a phone number on the list: 3 kr per send plus 1 kr per recipient, paid with Vipps or by card. Members of a group never get a text message from kauke.
