Privacy

We store as little as possible.

kauke is built to keep content private. What you share in a group or an event is never public and is never indexed by search engines, and we do not track you across the web.

The service is run by Steinholm Software, company no. 935 251 419.

What we store

  • Your account: name, and e-mail or phone number. We use this only to give you access to the groups and events you are invited to. If you confirm who you are with Vipps, we also store Vipps's id for you, so we recognise you next time.
  • Content you share: posts, photos, video, attachments, comments and replies to events. If you reply to an open event without an account, we store only the name you typed.
  • Logins: the time and the method, so that someone in charge can see activity in their own group. Each group also has a log of what the people in charge have done, with names.
  • What you have opened: that you have opened a post or an event, and when. See ‘Who sees that you have read it’ below.
  • Notifications on your phone: if you turn them on, we store an address for that one device, and nothing else about it. You turn them off again on My account.

Who sees the content

Only people on the access list of a group or an event. When you log in, we check that you are on the list. There is no ‘secret link’, and the pages are never indexed by search engines.

Who sees that you have read it

The editors and the admins in a group can see who has opened a post or an event. That is how they know whether a message got through. Other members do not see it, neither the names nor the number. A group can switch it off in its settings, and then nothing is recorded. On a standalone event it is the organiser who sees it, on their own guest list. We store only that you opened something, and when. Not how long you were there, and not how many times you came back. It is deleted after 90 days. You find your own overview in the data download on My account.

Cookies

We use no cookies for tracking or statistics. We store one for your login. If you choose light or dark kauke, or Norwegian or English, in the footer, we store the choice in one more. It holds only the choice, sits on the device you are at, and lasts for a year. If you choose ‘Follow the system’, we delete it. If you reply to an event without logging in, you get one that remembers it was you, so you can change your reply later. And if you say no thanks to notifications on your phone, we remember that in one, so we do not ask again.

Who we share with

We do not sell data, and we do not share content with other services for marketing. To run the service we use a few subcontractors, and they handle only what is needed to deliver it: a hosting provider that stores the data in Europe, an e-mail service that sends login links and invitations, and one that receives e-mail sent to an invitation address. If you confirm who you are with Vipps, we get your name and phone number from Vipps. If you turn on notifications on an iPhone, the message that something happened passes through Apple, with no name and no content. If you type an address on an event, our server looks it up in the Norwegian Mapping Authority's open register, so your browser never talks to them.

How long

We store the details for as long as you have an account or are on a group's list. If you delete your account, we remove your details. Posts and comments you have written can stay without a name, so that a conversation others took part in still hangs together.

Your rights

On My account you can download a copy of your data or delete your account at any time. If you are the only person in charge of a group or an event, you have to hand the role to someone else first, because a group cannot be left without one. If you want to correct something, or are wondering what we have stored, get in touch.

For groups and leaders

When you set up a group, you decide who gets access and what is shared. You are then responsible for the details on your list, and kauke handles them on your behalf. Do not import more people than you have to, and give access only to the invited. That goes especially when the content is photos of children. What has to be in place then, with consent and the choice of channel, is on the page about photos of children.
